This year the "Just Donate" Fundraiser is April 24, 2022 This is the one group fundraiser that we do each year. We reach out to the community and ask for donations to help support music education. There are no gimmicks or things to buy, and no products to be delivered. We simply ask you for your support. Your entire donation supports all music programs and activities. We are thankful for the generosity of our alumni, family, friends and the Harlan Community who work together to keep the legacy of excellence in music fully funded and moving forward.
Thank you to those who have volunteered your time this year! We couldn't do this without your help!
You can help support the Vocal and Instrumental Music Programs in the HCSD when you shop on Amazon. Please select the Harlan Community Music Booster Association as your designated non-profit.
Enthusiasm for the music programs in the Harlan Community School District is growing! This school year there are two Middle School Jazz Bands and two High School Jazz Bands. Our 5th grade band is the largest in recent years with nearly 85 students. Participation in marching band and concert band continues to expand. The vocal music department provides several established and valuable performance and learning opportunities including; Concert Choir, 9th grade chorus, men’s choir and MS and HS show choirs. The Harlan Community Music Boosters support elementary music programs as well. This year the Music boosters purchased xylophones and glockenspiel instruments for the elementary classroom. A quality music education starts with our youngest students. We are fortunate to have a supportive community of music parents who work together in solidarity to support the education their children receive in the Harlan Community School District. We want to continue to build the legacy of music excellence that our school and community have enjoyed for many years. The annual budget for the Music Boosters averages around $56,000 a year. Uniform maintenance and repair, music and licenses, contest fees, choreography, clinicians and instrument repair and replacement are some of the recurring expenses that the Music Booster Association helps fund. This year we hope to raise enough money to purchase items that are not usually in the HCMBA budget; music stands for 5th grade band, music stands for high school band, additional instruments for the elementary classroom, collapsible uniform racks, music department trailer with logo, props for marching band and show choir competitions, show choir costumes changes, wireless microphones for auditorium, keyboard and amp for show choir and funding for summer enrichment programs. The HCMBA also plans for the long-term and the costly expense of new uniforms, our goal is that when new uniforms are needed that the money is available. The HCMBA also helps pay a portion of student trips. The June board meeting is open to the public, at that time new board members will be elected and the budget for the next fiscal year will be decided, the results of the” Just Donate” fundraiser determine what expenditures will be made for the next fiscal year. We are hopeful that the additional needs of the music program will be fully funded after the “Just Donate” event. More information is available on the Harlan Community Music Boosters’ Facebook page and on our website: cyclonemusic.org. We want to thank the community for supporting music education in the Harlan Community School District. Music Students will be collecting donations on Sunday March 24th from 4-7pm. Donations can also be made online at cyclonemusic.org or mailed to HCMBA PO box 134 Harlan, Iowa 51537.
